James Gavin - Deep in a Dream, The Long Night Of Chet Baker

A very thick biography of the great trumpet player. All his life is described, from his birth in Ohlahoma untill his death in Amsterdam. I must say that it is not a good Chet Baker that you read about. My impression is that James Gavin wanted to write a book about a great jazz musician, but after researches, interviews and various testimonies, he found himself with the material that was more suitable for a book about a drugie rather that a musician. And yet Chet Baker was a drugie, but more than this he was a great musician. By reading this book you will also know about Baker's very special feeling with Italy, where he was and is loved very much, probably, as stated in the book, for his lyricism with the trumpet, which somehow may remind opera arias.
