The Perfect Glissato

I've seen this very performance of Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin two years ago in Rome at Auditorium Parco della Musica, now I just discovered that it is on YouTube. Listen to the famous opening glissato, absolutely perfect! Clarinetist is Alessandro Carbonare, first clarinet in Orchestra of Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and one of the best in the world.

Bar Louie, Beirut

Let's continute our world tour of Jazz Clubs, this time we go to Lebanon. Despite the fact that the country has been devasted by a long war, and the situation keeps on being a little complicated, there are a lot of artistic movements going on in Beirut. The wonderful movie Caramel , by lebanese filmaker and actress Nadine Labaki won the Oscar as the best foreign film in 2008. And yes there is also a jazz scene in Beirut. This is a version of Autumn Leaves with a somewhat arabian accent, because jazz has different tastes in different places, that's way I love this music.

Sunday Morning - Ep1: Aprilia, Piazza Roma

As I had announced in a recent episode of The Night Passage Podcast, this is my first attempt of a Video Podcast. The format is simple: images of Italian places "Off the beaten paths" with some jazzy background tune. Every episode is a "postcard", a shot taken on Sunday Morning. I start with my hometown Aprilia, In the next episode I will feature a neighbour town and so on. Rather than creating a new feed I decided to use my old Night Passage Podcast feed, this will avoid confusion since in my blog there are already two feeds (text & podcast).
There will be one video podcast every five audio shows.

(Background music in this episode: REVOLUTION VOID - INVISIBLE WALLS. Available for free on Jamendo.org) Hope you enjoy!

Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane - At Carnegie Hall

RECORD OF THE DAY

To think this concert, recorded in 1957, had been forgotten in a box at Library of Congress until 2005. Voice of America produced it for radio broadcasting. There's no much to say when artists of such level meet each other. An absolute must-have.

Music Labels Reach Online Royalty Deal

Internet radio, once on its deathbed, is likely to survive after all.

On Tuesday, after a two-year battle, record labels and online radio stations agreed on new royalty rates that cover music streaming.

Many of the music sites had argued that the old rates were so high that they were being forced out of business. That could have come back to haunt the record labels, since for many people the sites are becoming a useful way to discover music.
