Thelonious Monk Plays Duke Ellington

Monk's music, with its weird harmonies was considered difficult, a niche genre. For this reason the Riverside, for the first record by the great pianist for this label, decided to make a compilation of Duke Ellington's songs, the ideas was to make hime meet the public with very popular pieces.

Music of genius Duke Ellington filtered through the music of genius Thelonious Monk: the final result is absolutely great. All songs are interpreted in a very original way and made theirs by Monk, with the help of Kennyy Clarke on drums and Oscar Pettiford on bass.

Free sheet music: John Philip Sousa - The Washington Post

This was the first score I created for the Mutopia Project, a piano version of The Washington Post march by John Philip Sousa. I must tell you I love marching band music because I play alto saxophone in my hometown's municipal Marching/Concert Band.

50 years of Kind of Blue

Miles Davis during recording session of Kind Of Blue

This year Kind Of Blue, turned 50. On Msnbc you can find a great article about this album which made jazz history.

Miles was the cool hipster with his designer suits, Italian sports cars and glamorous women; the withdrawn and bespectacled Evans had the rumpled look of a nerdy college professor. But both shared a passion for modern classical composers, a penchant for introspective spacious music with an emphasis on lyricism, and a willingness to experiment.
Miles could see that there was something new that he could do with this guy who was making new sounds on the piano (Chick Corea)
